Small chocolate pack wrapping presents unique engineering challenges because the product dimensions (typically 20-50mm in length) are significantly smaller than standard chocolate bars (80-150mm). A machine designed for standard bars would produce excessive film waste and struggle with product orientation at small sizes. ECHO Machinery's small chocolate pack machines are purpose-configured for these dimensions. The forming box is scaled for narrow product widths, using reduced-diameter forming shoulders and close-spacing film guides. The infeed conveyor uses closely-spaced flight lugs that maintain orientation of the small pieces—critical because small pieces rotate more easily than large bars if not positively controlled. To achieve competitive throughput despite the short product length, the machine uses rapid-cycle sealing jaws with electronic cam profiles optimized for short-stroke motion. A machine achieving 100 ppm on a 30mm product is equivalent in film speed to 300+ ppm on a 90mm product—the servo-driven system manages these acceleration requirements. Cold-seal film is standard because miniature chocolates have higher surface-area-to-volume ratios than full-size bars, making them more susceptible to heat transfer from the sealing process. The cold-seal process eliminates this thermal exposure. Anti-static ionization is important because small chocolate pieces are particularly static-prone—their low mass means static charges can cause them to stick to surfaces or each other. For sharing bags and multi-pack formats, an integrated collation system groups individual wrapped pieces before secondary packaging. The recipe system stores parameters for different piece sizes and multi-pack configurations.
