Premade gusseted pouch packaging is the fastest-growing segment of flexible packaging, driven by consumer preference for stand-up pouches and manufacturer benefits in shipping and shelf efficiency. ECHO Machinery's rotary pouch packaging systems use a servo-driven indexing table with 8–12 stations, each performing a sequential operation in the fill-seal cycle. The process begins with a vacuum pickup arm removing a pouch from the magazine and placing it into grippers on the rotary table. A vacuum opening station uses suction cups to separate the pouch faces, followed by an optional gas flush to remove ambient air. The filling station dispenses product through a funnel that descends into the opened pouch to minimize dust. For powders, an auger filler with dust-tight connections is used. The sealing station applies heated bars to create the top seal, with an optional second seal for tamper evidence. Finally, the sealed pouch is released onto a discharge conveyor. ECHO machines include automatic pouch absence detection that prevents empty-station filling.
