Vertical packing machines represent the most mechanically efficient approach to form-fill-seal packaging, and ECHO Machinery has refined this technology through continuous development. The vertical forming process begins with flat film unwinding from a roll, passing over a forming collar that shapes it into a tube around a hollow mandrel. The longitudinal seal is created by heated rollers that bond the film overlap, while a pair of heated cross-seal jaws close below the forming tube to create the bottom of the bag. Product drops through the mandrel into the partially formed bag, and the film advances to position the next bag length before the cross-seal jaws close again—simultaneously sealing the top of the filled bag and the bottom of the next. This continuous cycle achieves high throughput with minimal mechanical complexity. ECHO vertical machines incorporate several performance-enhancing features: a film tension control system with dancer-arm feedback that maintains consistent web tension regardless of roll diameter, an automatic film tracking system that corrects lateral drift, and an independent temperature controller for each seal zone with deviation alarms. For dusty products, a vacuum extraction hood at the fill point captures airborne particles.
