Flow packaging is the most widely deployed flexible packaging technology globally, and ECHO Machinery has refined this technology through continuous engineering development since the company's founding. The flow packaging process is elegant in its simplicity: a flat film web is shaped into a tube around the product, sealed longitudinally, filled with product, sealed transversely between products, and cut into individual packages. This continuous process achieves high throughput because sealing and product transport occur simultaneously rather than sequentially. ECHO's flow packaging machines enhance this basic process with servo-driven motion control that replaces mechanical cams and linkages. Each motion axis—film advance, sealing jaw motion, product infeed—is independently controlled and electronically synchronized, enabling optimized motion profiles for each product format. The electronic cam system allows programming of jaw acceleration, velocity, and dwell time: aggressive profiles for thin products at high speed, gentler profiles for thick products requiring more seal time. The control system stores these profiles as product recipes, recalled from the HMI for push-button changeover. The machine frame uses cantilevered construction, placing all operating components on the accessible front of the machine while the rear houses utilities. This design enables rapid film threading, easy cleaning access, and clear operator visibility of the packaging process. Optional features—gas flushing, automatic splicing, date coding, vision inspection—are integrated as field-installable modules, allowing the machine's capability to grow with production requirements.
