Box packing—also known as case packing or cartoning—is the critical secondary packaging step that transforms individual primary packages into distribution-ready units. The case packing process typically includes: case erection from flat blanks, product collation into the required pack pattern, product loading into the case, and case sealing. ECHO machines can be configured as top-load (products lowered into an open case) or side-load (products pushed horizontally into a case on its side) depending on product characteristics and line layout. The product collation system is the most application-specific element: products may be arranged in single layers, stacked in multiple layers, or placed in mixed orientations. ECHO's servo-driven collation system uses programmable motion profiles to create any required pack pattern, with stored recipes for each product and case configuration. The case size changeover system uses servo-driven guide adjustments with digital position feedback, recalling stored positions for each case size from the recipe database. For manufacturers running multiple products in different case configurations, this reduces changeover time from 20-30 minutes (manual adjustment) to under 5 minutes (automatic). Quality verification includes check-weighing to confirm correct product count, with automatic reject for non-conforming cases, and optional label verification to ensure correct product identification.
